Biography

Stefan Taylor grew up in the large market town of Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire in the East Midlands of England, growing up listening to the sounds of soul and Motown played by his DJ father.

Stefan began singing at an early age, performing on stages since the age of 8 in theatre shows to begin with, and then as a solo artist, ‘gigging’ in and around his hometown from the age of 15.

After moving to London at the age of 21, Stefan became very highly regarded as the lead singer of the UK and Europe’s leading Northern Soul band The Signatures, a role seemed destined to him, given his father’s history with the genre. This role took him on extensive tours around the UK and into Europe for 10 years and he released numerous singles and a successful album with The Signatures.

He’s shared the stage and worked alongside legends of soul music such as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Tommy Hunt (The Flamingos), Motown’s Brenda Holloway and Gloria Jones, Steve Ellis of Love Affair, and many more. His voice and songs have featured across UK radio including a featured special on BBC Radio 6 music where he recorded 7 tracks at the historic BBC Maida Vale studios for the Northern Soul 50th Anniversary BBC radio special, thus being DJ host Craig Charles’s house band and vocalist for the show, as well as featuring on various radio advert jingles.

Recently Stefan was the lead male vocalist onboard the prestigious brand new Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection vessel 'Luminara' touring Africa and Asia.

Stefan has also played piano and keys for most of his life, able to accompany himself for solo work and media content. He is a songwriter and has released a couple of co-written songs, with more on the way!

In terms of live performances, performing in front of 10,000 people at Sunshine festival in the west of England was especially memorable, as well as in front of the 4,000 Northern Soul loving fans at the yearly Northern Soul Survivors weekenders.

Performing professionally now for over 10 years, Stefan feels very lucky to have been able to pursue his childhood dream and can’t wait to see where the next 10 years of professional life takes him.
